Common Questions When Getting Started

Starting sim racing comes with a lot of decisions, and it’s normal to want clarity before buying.

"What should I buy first?"
"How much do I actually need to spend?"
"Will this work with my space and setup?"
"I don’t want to overbuy or regret it."

Sim Motion helps you answer these questions clearly so you can build a setup that makes sense for you.

What Do You Actually Need to Get Started?

You don’t need everything at once. A solid sim racing setup starts with just a few core components:
  • A wheelbase. The motor that creates force feedback and realism.
  • A steering wheel. Your main point of control. Different styles suit different driving preferences.
  • Pedals. Throttle, brake, and clutch inputs that affect consistency and lap times.
  • A mounting solution. Either a desk mount or a dedicated sim racing rig to keep everything stable.

Everything else is optional, and you can upgrade over time as your setup and experience grow. There’s no single “right” setup, just the one that fits where you’re starting. If you have questions, reach out anytime at support@simmotion.com.
